It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Darwood Lamar Smith of Gallion, Alabama, born in Clanton, Alabama, who passed away on October 9, 2023, at the age of 70, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, John Durwood Smith and Eva Louise Easterling Smith; his stepfather Joseph F. Lewis; his daughter Nena Keup; his brothers, Joe Lewis and Freddie Lewis; and his brother-in-law Jerry Hannah.

He is survived by : his children, Camilla Croston, Patricia Spence (Sam), Durwood Lamar Smith, Jr. and Dusty Smith; and his siblings, Patricia Hannah, Linda Phillips (Larry) and Johnnie Smith (Peggy). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
