He was predeceased by: his father Paul M. Garst; his niece Emily Garst; and his grandparents, James T., Clara Hamilton Skelton, Paul W. and Artive Watkins Garst.

He is survived by: his mother Peggy Garst; his sons, Austin Maverick Garst, Aaron Dakota Garst and Samuel Jordan Garst; his grandson Zaydn Garst; his siblings, Rhonda Woodcock (Steve), Philip Garst (Rose Marie) and Barry Garst; his nephews, Nick Woodcock and Noah Garst; his niece Christina Mohney (Nick); his great-nephew Keegan; and his great-niece Kynnedy Mohney.
