He was predeceased by: his parents, James Grimmett and Willene Grimmett; and his father-in-law Robert W. Wellman. He is survived by: his wife Julie Grimmett; his children, Courtney Layfield (Michael) and Chase Grimmett (Larissa); his granddaughter Briggs Layfield; his siblings, Brenda Steele (Floyd), Deborah Chupp, Teresa Fields (Tim), Doug Hendrix and Robert Grimmett; his mother-in-law Cathy Wellman; his sisters-in-law, Pam Montplaisir (Craig) and Beth Lindberg (Mike); his siblings' children, Zach Wigginton (Meghan), Carissa Wigginton, Emily Werely (Brian), Jacob Lindberg and Matthew Lindberg; and his great-nephew Thomas Werely. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hanceville Funeral Home (100 Michelle St NW, Hanceville, AL 35077). The lying in state will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (334 Main St, Gardendale, AL 35071). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church (5805 Co Rd 38, Hanceville, AL 35077).
