In the vast expanse of eternity, Joe Thomas shall find rest, cradled in the arms of everlasting peace. And as we bid Joe Thomas farewell, his loved ones carry with them the precious gift of his memory, a beacon of hope guiding them through the shadows of sorrow towards the light of a new dawn.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Ethel Juanita Rutledge and Thomas Carlos Rutledge; his stepmother Martha Esther Rutledge; and his brother Richard Dwight Rutledge. He is survived by: his children, William Thomas Rutledge of Jasper, AL and Angela Nicole Carlisle of Birmingham, AL; his sister Karen Sue Bullock of Birmingham, AL; and his nieces, Kimberly Swink (Darrell) of Denver, Colorado and Amy Rutledge Neville (Greg) of Rancho Cucamonga, California. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great nieces.
A graveside service was held on Friday, June 6th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Elmwood Cemetery (600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211).
