He was predeceased by: his parents, AB Thompson and Eunice Thompson; and his siblings, Barbara Dunlap, Sue Dunn and Brantley Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Pat; his children, Paige Gann (Gary) and Russell Thompson (Lynn); and his grandsons, Travis Gann (Kendall) and Logan Arnwine (Matt).

It was Gene's wish that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital to honor his memory.
