He was predeceased by: his father F. E. Gibson; his wife Daphna Robinson Gibson; his son John Raymond "Johnny" Gibson; his mother Lonie Lafayette Doggette Gibson; and his siblings, Hubert Gibson, S. G. Gibson, Edward Gibson and Annie Gibson Abston.
He is survived by: his daughter Nancy Gibson McElroy; his daughter-in-law Henrietta Sullivan Gibson; his grandchildren, Jennifer Gibson, John Raymond Gibson II (Jeanna), Cody McElroy and Lacy McElroy Chadwick (Josh); his great grandchildren, Kaitlin Newton (Christopher), Brayden Shoemaker, Emma Chadwick, Colt Chadwick, Parker Chadwick, Olive Gibson, Will McElroy and Tenley Gibson; his great great grandchild Sutton Raye Newton; and his friend Ronnie Skinner.
Visitation was held on Thursday, February 5th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Phillips Funeral Home (116 Main St, Gilbertown, AL 36908). A funeral service was held on Friday, February 6th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
