He is survived by: his wife Clara Isham Powell; his children, Lois Powell Gibson and Joseph Wheeler Powell III; his niece Jennifer Evans Ballard; his grandchildren, Karime Bryant, Chrystal Bavuso and Thomas Coffia; and his great grandchildren, Octavia Bryant, Benjamin Bavuso and Amelia Bavuso.
A funeral service was held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. A graveside service was held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at the Union Baptist Church Cemetery (3967-4503 S Grand Bay Wilmer Rd, Grand Bay, AL 36541).
