He was predeceased by : his parents, Clifford J. Ackerman and Hazel LeDuke; his wife Janet Ackerman; his siblings, Helen Effaldana, Mary Paulis and Louis Ackerman; and his sons, Edward "Ed" Ackerman and James "Jim" Ackerman.

He is survived by : his grandchildren, Andrew "Andy" Ackerman and Frances Ackerman; and his close friends, Teresa Cascio and Frank Cascio. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or The Wounded Warrior Project.
