He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Atkinson and Ola Mae Harper Atkinson; his wife Janice Stokes Atkinson; his daughter Karen Atkinson; and his sister Shelby Howe.

He is survived by: his son Brian Atkinson of Guin; his nephews, Randy Howe (Kim), Tommy Howe (Janine) and Benjie Howe; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Whitney, Courtney, Kelli and Joey.
