He is survived by: his parents, Dan Nicholson and Valerie Murphy Nicholson; his wife Diana Vierra Nicholson; his children, Jacob Nicholson (Danielle), Levi Nicholson (Abby) and Holly Harper (Derek); his brother Keith Nicholson Scott Nicholson (Janet); and his grandchildren, Eric Nicholson, Faith Nicholson, Micah Nicholson and Ella Nicholson.

“Mark was a wonderful person. When I arrived in Okinawa I didn't know anyone. Mark befriended me and included me in many of the daily interactions with others and we became fast friends. Over the years he made sure to seek me out when in Wisconsin and let me know he was around so we could get together. One year while visiting relatives in Tennessee he drove up to meet me and my family just to visit. He has made an indelible mark on my soul. I can't even imagine your grief. Prayers to all of you.”
