He was predeceased by: his former wife Ingrid K. Hicks; his parents, Robert Hicks and Evelyn Hicks Carpenter; and his brothers, Bobby, Harry and Kenny.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Hicks; his brother Richard (Dick); and his children, Beverly Broomes of Pensacola, FL, Mary Anne Chesser of Huntsville, AL, Angela Stirling of Harvest, AL, Rebecca White of Merritt Island, FL and Garrett "Butch" Hicks Jr. of Ponce Inlet, FL. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
