He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Odessa Mae Staton Heard; his children, Larry Dale Heard (Peggy), Kenneth Bryan Heard (Sheila) and Virginia Gail Dick (Roger); his sisters, Hazel Bowen and Barbara Sue Sosebee; his parents, Irven H. Heard, Sr. and Naoma Lee Mobbs; and his sisters, Nadine Jimmerson, Marcia Lee Stewart and Johnnie Ruth Burgess. He was also cherished by 4 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
