He was predeceased by: his wife Ada Carden (Carden); his parents, Gracie Carden and Ernest Carden Sr.; his sister Clara Henson; and his grandson Christopher Knighten.
He is survived by: his children, Rick Carden (Alice), Sherry Knighten (Mike) and Lottie Eldridge. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, AL, and St. Jude Hospitals.
