He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Taylor and Alice Taylor; his grandson Cody Taylor; and his siblings, David Taylor, Glen Taylor, Phil Taylor and Carolyn Dunn.

He is survived by: his son David Edwin Taylor (Kimberly); and his sister Janie Moore (Bobby). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In recognition of his contributions to Gospel music, he was inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame and was honored as a "Governor for a Day.".
