She was predeceased by: her parents, Oscar Newton Nicholson and Goldie Elizabeth Hayes; her husband Donald Erroll Smith Sr.; and her siblings, Benjamin, Devon and Delores.

She is survived by: her children, Jonas Keith Fowler Jr. and Dana Fowler May; her stepchildren, Julia Ann Smith and Donald Errol Smith; her grandson Kevin Daniel May; her children-in-law, Sandra Fowler and Danny R. May; her granddaughter-in-law Rachel May; and her sisters-in-law, Francis and Lorna Nicholson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
