As Jerry departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Jerry may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Jerry leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Hassell Abernathy and Minnie Kate Ford Abernathy; and his sister Mimsye Owen. He is survived by: his wife Drusilla Lamb Abernathy of LaFayette; his daughter Robin Cottle (Phillip) of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Matthew Cottle of Roanoke, Laura Rodriguez (Alex) of Birmingham and Jacob Cottle of Jefferson City, TN.; and his brother-in-law Curtis Lamb.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 27th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (201 Lafayette St S, La Fayette, AL 36862). A reception was held on Saturday, September 27th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, September 27th 2025 at the Harmony Funeral Home Memorial Gardens (6415 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, Lanett, AL 36863).
