He was predeceased by: his parents, Carrie Merle McNeill Thomas and Cornelius Kelly Thomas; and his siblings, Kelly Thomas, Jr., Eulalie T. Jones and Nell T. Harrison.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Couch Thomas; his daughter Carrie Anne Thomas Payne (Joe); and his grandson Jacob Thomas Payne.
