She was predeceased by: her mother Mary Oliver Whitworth; her husband Rowe Smith; her father John Whitworth; and her sisters, Lou Leleaux and Silvia Whitworth.
She is survived by: her daughters, Audrey West (Terry) and Pamela Compton (Jeff); her grandchildren, Laura West Ramkorun (Bhavesh), Connor West (Maggie), Lincoln Compton (Ashley), Libby Compton Hastings (Joseph) and Matthew Compton; and her great grandchildren, Margot West, Campbell West, Joel Ramkorun, William Hastings and Harper Compton.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 at the Bible School. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville (2411 Memorial Pkwy NW, Huntsville, AL 35810). A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Mount Zion Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church or the Monrovia Volunteer Fire Department in honor of Joan's lifelong commitment to her faith and community.
