He was predeceased by : his parents, Doil Smitherman and Inez Payne Smitherman; his son Jeff Smitherman; and his siblings, Daniel Smitherman, Roland Smitherman, Bobby Smitherman, Randy Smitherman and Alice Faye Carter.

He is survived by : his wife Charlotte Smitherman; his daughters, Gina Sanders (Johnny) and Tammy Garrett (Phillip); his grandchildren, Amy, Christy, Jason, Tyler, Kendall, Cory, Haley, Mitch and Matt; his great grandchildren, Katlyn, Coley, Carlee, Caylee, Bowen, Malley, Ayden, Mia, Brianne and Gus; his great great grandchildren, Rylee, Isla and Nora; and his siblings, Net Smitherman, Wanda Bistline (Steve) and Roger Smitherman (Bonnie). He is also survived by other relatives and close family friends.

The family request in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the Chilton County Humane Society to honor Doug's love of animals.
