She was predeceased by : her parents, Virgil Smitherman and Mable Smitherman; her husband James Lightsey (Pete); and her sisters, Marie Whitfield and Myra Allgood.

She is survived by : her brother J. Smitherman; her sons, Don Lightsey (Elaine) and Jerry Lightsey; her grandchildren, Kristen Akins (Randy), Shelley Ryan (Phil), Will Harris (Laura), Michael Mantooth (Melissa) and Elizabeth Thompson (Justin); and her great grandchildren, Madeline Akins, McKenzie Akins, Jackson Akins, Abbie Ryan, Jake Ryan, Logan Harris, Addelyn Harris, Max Mantooth, MaryJo Mantooth and Katie Mantooth.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
