He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend Willie D. Hires, Sr. and Alice F. Hires-Hodges; and his brother Kenneth D. Hires, Sr.. He is survived by: his godparents, Clarence and Sarah Brown; his wife Lady Alicia R. Hires; his children, Maurice Mickles I of Columbus, Georgia, Ke'shun Armstead (AnnMarie) of Mobile, Alabama, DeShun Armstead of Mobile, Alabama, Ajene Hires of Mobile, Alabama, Alfonso Hires, Jr. of Mobile, Alabama and Deovion McNeil (Raven) of St. Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Jaiyana, Jordyn, Kairo, King, Koah, Kyndal, Maurice II, Serenitee and Sonder; his siblings, Clarence Hires, Terrence Hires, Sr., Willie "Gretta" Davidson, Susan Hires and Lois Hill; and his mother-in-law Brenda White. He is also survived by his godchildren; and a host of extended family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Christians United Church (2576 Pleasant Valley Rd, Mobile, AL 36606). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
