He is survived by: his wife Tracye Sanders Mathis; his children, April Ann (Alexander Voris), Howard Francis "Matt", IV (Jheff Mathis), Elizabeth Lynn (Alex Chandonnet) and David Tyler (Jordan Mathis); his grandchildren, Ava Ann Voris, Aiden Alexander Voris, Alex Michael Chandonnet, Jr., Turner James Mathis and Lainey Francis Mathis; and his sister Marilyn Ann (Timothy Holston). He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, family members and close friends.

In lieu of flowers: Chipper loved all things that had to do with children and outdoor activities.
