He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edward Smith and June Louis Hudson Smith; his son Jay Austin "Snuffy" Smith, Jr.; and his sister Irene Barbara Menard. He is survived by: his wife Ann Smith; his daughter Amanda Smith; and his siblings, Shirley Hubert, Timothy Smith (Ann) and Kathy Opezio (Mike). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
