He was predeceased by: his wife Amelie Courtney Pitman; his parents, Norman D. Pitman, Sr. and Tallulah Arnold Pitman; his brother Ens. Norman D. Pitman, Jr.; and his daughter Frances P Inge (Tunstall).

He is survived by: his children, Norman D. Pitman, III (Belinda), Gwynn Arnold Pitman and Skipper Pitman (Katherine); his grandchildren, J. Tunstall Inge, Jr., Amelie Courtney Inge, Vera P Knox (Graham), Alice Phillips and Crawford Phillips; and his great grandchildren, J. Tunstall Inge, III and Louise Lott Inge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul Episcopal Church or Spring Hill College.
