Michael Owes Obituary

Michael “Mike” Owes, a devoted husband, proud father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and retired military veteran, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama. He was 87 years old.

Born on February 17, 1938, in Mobile, Alabama, Michael grew up with a strong sense of duty and purpose that would define the course of his life. He answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he dedicated over two decades of honorable service. Rising through the ranks with steadfast commitment and courage, Michael completed several tours of duty—including overseas assignments—and was awarded multiple commendations recognizing his leadership and patriotism.

Following his retirement from active duty, Michael remained deeply involved in veterans' affairs. He became a source of strength and guidance for fellow servicemen and women transitioning to civilian life. His loyalty to those who served beside him was unwavering, and he continued to embody the values of integrity and service long after he hung up his uniform.

Michael’s devotion extended far beyond his military career. He was a man of deep Christian faith who actively participated in his church community. Whether attending services or supporting church events, he offered kindness and encouragement to all he encountered. His humility and grace left a lasting impression on those around him.

Family was at the heart of Michael’s life. He shared many joyful years with his beloved wife, Jane Owes, whose memory he carried with him until his final days. Together they built a loving home filled with warmth and laughter. Though her passing left a profound void, Michael found comfort in the love of their children: Helen Owes, Freddy Owes, and Monica James.

He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren—Alandrea Owes, Jeffery Hunter Jr., Alan Hunter, Michelle Lewis, Tiffany James, Trashawn James, Alexis James, and Mya James—each of whom brought him immense pride. His joy multiplied through his seven great-grandchildren, who filled his later years with laughter and light.

Michael was preceded in death by his wife Jane Owes and his siblings Johnnie Owes and Terry Owes. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Those who knew Michael will remember him as a pillar of strength and wisdom—a man who led by example through quiet acts of love and unwavering dedication. Whether sharing stories at family gatherings or offering support during difficult times, he touched countless lives with his gentle spirit.

Michael Owes leaves behind a legacy defined by love, service, and faith. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and inspiration to those who carry forward the values he held dear. A Funeral Service will be held on June 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM at First Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church 664 Shelby Street
