We announce the death of Sandra Leona (Minchew) Gilchrist (Mobile, Alabama), who passed away on July 19, 2026, at the age of 80. Sandra will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Sandra will be remembered for the impact she had on the lives of those around her. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Those who knew Sandra will remember moments of kindness, warmth, and presence. Though words cannot fully capture her life, the legacy of connections and experiences remains. Sandra’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Lesley Minchew and Olivy Minchew; her sister Joyce Rogers; and her nephew Scott Rogers. She is survived by: her husband Joseph Edward Gilchrist; her children, Timothy Gilchrist (Cindy) and Alison Hawn (Jesse); her grandchildren, Raney Hawn and Lauren Gilchrist; and her great-nephews, Will Smith (Jorden) and Brandon. She is also survived by many extended family members, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
