She was predeceased by: her parents, Susan Cornelia Swift Marshall and Randolph Tucker Marshall; her husband William Bry Shields; her son-in-law Edward Chesley Greene (Eddie); and her grandson Edward Chesley Greene, Jr..

She is survived by: her children, Reverend William Bry Shields (Ruth), Sarah Marshall Shields (Sally) and John Randolph Shields (Therese); and her grandchildren, Coleman McGehee Greene (Courtney), Virginia Lyons Shields Beale (Coleman), Laura Therese Shields Brangle (James), William Bry Shields, III (Maude), John Marshall Shields (Allison), Sarah Marshall Greene Thompson (Ben), Susan Swift Shields Cash (Andy), Amelie Hill Shields, Henry Foster Shields (Margaret), Thomas Howard Shields (Anne) and Anna Mary Shields Hollis (Harper). She is also survived by twenty-six great grandchildren.
