He was predeceased by: his parents, Forest Milford and Frances Ballentine Strong; and his siblings, Martha Strong Coleman, Mary Strong Christian, Nolan Creed Strong and Milford Strong.

He is survived by: his wife Vicki Crew Strong; his children, Stephan Strong, Tara Palmer (James Kendrick, III) and Jonathan Palmer (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Aislyn Campbell, Kirkland Jolly, Nora Palmer, Kyle Kendrick and Kory Kendrick; and his great grandchild Bowen Clark.
