He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Johnston and Mildred Johnston; his daughter Rochelle Shafer; and his brother Tom Johnston. He is survived by: his wife Elda Johnston; his children, Michael Johnston, Mitch Johnston (Valerie Sparks) and Carol Martin (Joseph); and his brothers, Pierce Johnston, Jack Johnston and Ed Johnston. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 5th 2026 at 11:45 AM at the Alabama National Cemetery (3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115).
