He was predeceased by: his parents, John Matherson and Ruby Matherson; and his brother David Matherson. He is survived by: his wife Lucy Matherson; his children, Scott Matherson (Krystal) and Brandy King (Brandon); his grandchildren, Paige Campbell (Alex), Kyle Carson and Mylie Newton (Tyler); his great grandchildren, Amelia Campbell and Cooper Campbell; his grandchild Holley Newton; and his sister Trenna Keller (William).
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home (1300 4th Ave N, Bessemer, AL 35020). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 7th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, August 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Alabama National Cemetery (3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Earl's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
