He was predeceased by: his wife Rosalee Rosato Messina; his parents, Frank Messina and Callie Messina; his brother Joe Messina; his grandson Thomas Messina; and his great grandchild Becca Vines.
He is survived by: his children, Jerry, Marilyn Vines (Buck), Dr. Frank (Natalie), Steve (Shannon) and Cathy Juliano (Johnny); his grandchildren, Jennifer Moeller (Chris), Jacob Vines (Kelcey), Taylor Messina (Marena), Dr. Kennedie Mims (Jamie), TJ Messina, Luke Juliano, Jesse Juliano, Kylie Messina and Teddy Messina; and his great grandchildren, Zander, Max Moeller, Jaylon, Jenna, Jake Vines and Francesco Messina.
Visitation was held on Friday, June 13th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church (4600 Preserve Pkwy, Hoover, AL 35226). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, June 13th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, June 13th 2025 at 12:30 PM at the Alabama National Cemetery (3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115).
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leon may be made to the Thomas Scott Messina Memorial Scholarship Fund at John Carroll Catholic High School:300 Lakeshore Parkway, Birmingham, AL 35209.
