It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Lula Merritt (Montevallo, Alabama), born in Huntsville, Alabama, who passed away on August 22, 2020, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Elijah Hammonds and Sadie Hammonds; her husband Reverend Jim R. Merritt; and her stepson Peter James Merritt. She is survived by: her aunt Lula; her uncle Jim; her children, Edderrick (Sabrina), Melvin Wheeler (Benita) and Linda Readus (Joe); her stepdaughters, Cynthia and Shirley Merritt; and her sister Nannie Hammonds Joiner. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
