His wife, Geraldine, predeceased him and he is survived by his children, Nancy Hover, Carl Cotten, Jr. and Robin Cotten; his grandchildren, Judson Hover, Jessica Cotten and Trey Cotten; and his great grandchildren, Mackensie Cotten, Piper Cotten, Prentice and Cayson Hover.

In lieu of flowers he requested donations, in his memory, be made to the Humane Society of Elmore County, 255 Central Plank Rd, Wetumpka, AL 36092.
