He was predeceased by: his wife Diane Herndon; and his parents, Rosella Herndon and Randolph Herndon. He is survived by: his children, Danny Herndon, Jr. and Angela Herndon; his pet Millie Herndon; and his brother James Herndon. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the Herndon family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Association or the Montgomery Humane Society.
