Diane Irene (DeBolt) Huggins Obituary
Diane Irene DeBolt Huggins. Diane was born in Minnesota on January 26, 1936, and was one of 10 children of Harold Allison DeBolt, Sr. & Ruth Irene Eggert DeBolt. She later relocated to Montgomery, Alabama, where she met and married Fleet Thornton Huggins, Jr. in 1957.
Together they had one daughter, Nancy Diane Huggins, in 1965. Diane was very active and independent during the period of time when her husband of 59 years traveled in and for the military and she continued to be so even after he passed away in late 2016. She volunteered in Alabama elementary and middle schools and taught students the history of Memorial Day and Veteran's Day and the importance of remembering to honor our country's veterans, earning her nickname, "The Poppy Lady".
A devout Christian, Diane departed this earthly life on November 7, 2022, to be with her Savior. She leaves behind many loved ones including her devoted daughter, Nancy (James), her brothers, Bob (Lulu) and Ray (Marilyn), and her sisters, Betty (Harry) and Merilee (Bill), who are scattered around the country, their children and grandchildren, and all her dear friends, especially her best friend of more than 50 years, Helen. Her Alabama nieces, Vickie and Cindy, were more like daughters to her and she had a special love for each and every one of her nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She will certainly be mourned and missed by many. Those who knew and loved Diane and are able to be present are invited to attend a farewell service at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 1:15 pm where her ashes will be placed to rest with her beloved husband's ashes. On their columbarium headstone is a single word inscription, "Mizpah", which means "The Lord watch over us while we are absent one from another".
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity in memory of Diane. Shalom. Brookside Funeral Home, Crematorium & Memorial Gardens of Millbrook, AL directing.
