He was predeceased by: his father Jim Rutherford; and his son Rex Rutherford. He is survived by: his wife Martha Sue; his son Jerry Rutherford (Beth); his grandchildren, Jennifer Rutherford, Clint Rutherford (Gabriella), Katie Rutherford and Rachel Rutherford; his great grandchildren, Autumn Beatty (Kyle), Danielle Smith, Crimson Rutherford and Layla Whitley; his great great grandchild Kinzley Beatty; and his siblings, Karen Gist (Kenneth) and Charles Rutherford (Sue). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
