He was predeceased by: his parent Niner Mae McNutt Gillespie; his wife Gemma Miller Gillespie; his father Harry Clifford "H. C." Gillespie; and his siblings, Wallace Gillespie, Willard Gillespie, Nick Gillespie, Hilton Gillespie, Tracy Gillespie, Wilma Weatherwax, Anise Cahela, Movia Byers, Wynelle Carraway and Carolyn Adkinson.
He is survived by: his children, Richard Wayne Gillespie and Beth Gillespie Holmes (Forrest); his brother David Gillespie, Sr.; his grandchildren, Langlee Shae Holmes, Caroline Marie Morgan and Tanner Blake Gillespie (Kaylee); and his great grandchild John Ryder Gillespie.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Parkway Funeral Home (23599 AL-24, Trinity, AL 35673). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
