He was predeceased by : his parents, Earnest Paul and Dorothy Reynolds McCray; his brother Terry McCray; and his brother-in-law Donald Ray Beckham (Oscar C. Beckham, Jr.). He is survived by : his wife Lana McCray; his son Brandon McCray (Mary Beth); his brother Robin McCray (Tabitha); his granddaughters, Mary Evelyn and Lana Beth McCray; his uncle David Glenn; his aunt Betty McCray; his nephews, Robbie McCray, Donny Beckham and Brian Beckham; his niece Katie McCray; his mother-in-law Ozella Beckham; and his sister-in-law Carolyn Beckham. He is also survived by grandparents in 2021 to their twin granddaughters and are expecting their grandson.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations in honor of Richard McCray to Hale County High School, Greensboro High School or The American Cancer Society.
