She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Lee Sr. and Lucille Bates Newsome; and her brother Robert Newsome Jr.. She is survived by: her husband John D. Phillips; her son Lawrence Phillips; her siblings, Rosie L. Freeman, Josephine Bankhead, Alfshteen Ricks, Edward Newsome and Derrick Newsome; her children, Dinah Phillips and David Phillips; her goddaughter Brenda King; her sisters, Betty Tiggs, Esther Horrison and Wanda Goodloe; her sisters-in-law, Annie Smith, Athena Newsome and Catherine Newsome; and her aunt Rosemary Meredith. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
