He was predeceased by: his wife Deloris Ann "Lois" Hawthorne Winston; his son John Robert Winston; and his parents, Henry Howard Winston and Mary Louise Wilson Winston. He is survived by: his children, Angela Davis (Tommy), Teresa Averette (James) and Travis Winston; his siblings, Edward Winston (Cindy) and Wynett Walker (Jeff); and his grandchildren, Cory Winston, Kelley Edwards (KJ), Gabriel Chavez (Hailey) and Christian Chavez (Heaven). He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
