He was predeceased by: his parents, Wyman Smith and Blanche Smith; and his brother Danny Smith. He is survived by: his wife Judy G. Smith; his children, Tara Cobb (Gary) and Todd Smith (Allison); his granddaughters, Abby Cobb, Mallory Cobb and Morgan Smith; his stepdaughters, Susan May (Waller) and Beth Requist (Eric); and his stepgrandchildren, Thomas May, Samuel May, John Lawson May, Ella Gray Requist and Claire Requist.
