William Hugh Jean Obituary
William (Bill) Hugh Jean of Northport, Alabama passed away on Saturday, March 18, at the age of 86. He was born on August 11, 1936, in Atlanta, Texas, the youngest of three children of Joseph Wallace and Bess (Ellen) Jean, He grew up on a small dairy farm near Iola, Kansas.
Bill graduated from Iola High School in Iola, Kansas and received a degree in Business from the University of Kansas, a Masters degree, and PHD from Purdue University.
He taught Economics and Finance at several universities over his career including University of Southern California, University of Michigan, at a military base in Germany, University of Illinois, University of North Carolina, with the last twenty-five years of his career at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Bill wrote several Economic and Finance text books along with numerous journal articles throughout his career. He was a member of the Midwest Finance Association and the Southern Economic Association.
Bill enjoyed playing tennis and racquetball with his graduate students as well as swimming, daily walks, and traveling to his favorite places, the Black Forest region of Germany, London, and Australia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister, and sister-in-law.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Gayle Worf of Madison, Wisconsin and five nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank Adam Owenby, a former student and friend, and his wife, Stephaney, who has been caring and helpful.
