He was predeceased by: his parents, Mamie Taylor Shirah Joyner and John J. Joyner; and his siblings, Herman Rudolph Shirah, Sr. and Evelyn Joyner Finn. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Herrick Joyner; his children, Teresa L. Joyner and Richard S. Joyner (Angela); his grandchildren, Savannah C. Joyner, Ashlynn C. Joyner and Brannon Ty Joyner; and his nieces and nephews, Kimberly Shirah Fowler, Herman Rudolph "Rudy" Shirah, Jr., Beatrice Herrick DeSmidt, Mary Herrick Tuggle, William J. Herrick, Elizabeth Herrick Paine (David), Michael E. Herrick and J. Matthew Herrick.
