He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Nelson and Gladis Nelson; and his siblings, Ottis Nelson, Robert "Theo" Nelson III, Lorraine Nelson, Thelma Whisenhunt and Kay Peoples.
He is survived by: his wife Susan Nelson; his grandchildren, Brooke Welbourne, Lily Nelson, Khloe Nelson and Conner Nelson; and his sisters, Sue McLaughlin and Joyce Nelson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
