He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Patterson and Lucille Patterson; his brothers, Bobby Ray Patterson and Michael Walter Patterson; and his grandson Charles Dewayne "Chas" Morton, Jr..
He is survived by: his significant other Linda Sue Yates Patterson; his daughters, Penny Ruffner (Jeff) and Stefanie Woodrow (Trey); his grandchildren, Ashley Morton Vaughn (Justin), Justin Stewart (Jessaleigh) and Cleo Woodrow; his great grandchildren, Jordon, Oakleigh, Samuel, Salem, Owen and Ailia; his sisters, Barbara Ann Hubbard and Jackie Hurley; and his siblings-in-law, Janie Patterson, Peggy Whalen (Marce) and Charles Yates. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Lemley Funeral Chapel (6878 2nd Ave W, Oneonta, AL 35121). A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 7th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Pine Hill Cemetery - Talladega (35036 AL-21, Talladega, AL 35160).
In lieu of flowers, a donation, in honor of Col. Patterson, can be made to either The Children's Hospital of Alabama or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Col. Patterson leaves behind a family who adored him and who will continue to honor his memory by living with the same strength, kindness, and devotion he showed every day of his life.
