He was predeceased by: his parents, Nanaline Holt Burgess and John Robert Burgess, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Betty Burgess; his children, Elizabeth Burgess of Auburn and John Robert Burgess, III (Carrie) of Birmingham, Alabama; his brother Thad Burgess (Barbara) of Nashville, Tennessee; and his nieces, Tiffany Davis (Chris) of Cumming, Brittany Westerman (Jannie) of Jasper, Haley Burgess of Jasper and Lauren Burgess of Canton, Georgia. He is also survived by six great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the John Robert Burgess, Jr. and Elizabeth deGraffenried Burgess Alumni Endowed Scholarship.
