He is survived by: his wife Nina English Herring of Elba; his daughter Dr. Gina Herring Hicks; his son-in-law Dr. Bruce Hicks; and his sisters, Joyce Norvell and Jeanie Jones. He is also survived by four nieces and two nephews.
