He was predeceased by: his parents, Shirley Driscoll Keener and William "Bill" Keener Sr. of Winston-Salem; and his friends, Bill Trotter and Joe Monolo. He is survived by: his sons, Joseph B. Keener and William H. Keener III; his granddaughter Madison Porche; his sister Lynda Farren; his nieces, Caroline Vale and Margaret Dean; his granddaughter Ellis Porche; his pet Mico; his adoptive mother Brenda Howard; Jim Hindman. He is also survived by grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and two great-nieces.
