He was predeceased by: his parents, Lofton Smith and Viola Smith; his son Jason Stuart Smith "Newt"; and his brothers-in-law, Tommy Challender and Barry McCrary.
He is survived by: his daughter Kim Blanton (Jeff); his grandchildren, Austin Blanton, Griffin Smith (Kinley), Bailey Elkins (Gabe) and Garrett Smith; his great grandchildren, Judson, Jase Smith, Hadley and Hayden Elkins; his siblings, Alice Challender and Tommy Smith (Delores); and his sister-in-law Marilyn McCrary. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
