He was predeceased by: his parents, Hula Rogers and David "Bubba" Phillips; his brother Bobby Lee Phillips of Union Springs, Alabama.; his grandparents, Adam and Melvina Rogers; his children, Marcus Sellers and Lynn Phillips; and his grandchildren, Diamonn Upshaw, Tyler Upshaw, Jordan Hall, Ahmon Hall, Chaundra Horace, Jaron Phillips and McKayla Phillips.
He is survived by: his children, Debra Upshaw (Marc), Cynthia Eddings (Michael) and John Phillips Jr.; his siblings, Juanita Rogers and Donnie Rogers; his aunt Lillie King; Beverly Rogers, Barbara Earl, Charles Earl and Calvin Rogers. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
